3 ways to market your business better online for free

Listen to the Brand in Bloom Podcast on iTunes, Spotify, Google Play, Stitcher, and iHeartRadio!

I can feel it. You can feel it. We can all feel it. Those waves of inspiration followed by those uninvited waves of desperation. It’s not just the pain of this pandemic, it’s personal.

With every new update to a social media platform comes motivation instantly clouded by stress + overwhelm.

With every new post from someone who’s crushing it comes excitement instantly clouded by envy + panic.

With each new season/year/market shift comes an eagerness to grow instantly clouded by confusion + scrambling.

I know this social media marketing self sabotage game all too well -- it’s where most of my clients are before they come to me for help.

On the outside, everything’s peachy. Behind the scenes, there’s this CONSTANT rigmarole between being on your sh*t + feeling like you’re about to lose it. The overwhelm is real + it makes you feel like you’ve lost your sense of purpose, direction, control.

The truth is though, no matter how tumultuous times get, you are always in control of your success. All of this marketing stuff can truly be as easy or as hard as you want it to be. It’s not up to the platforms or the people or the algorithms, it’s up to YOU.

If you’re posting to your brand’s social media platforms once a day or once a week + calling it a “strategy” - you’ll be stuck at that sucky standstill for *quite* some time, my friend. That’s not the place for you!

I straight up cannot sugar coat this anymore. That’s how badly I want + need you to succeed right now.

If you want to succeed you must shift from desperation (reactive) marketing to disruptive (proactive) marketing ASAP.

With that being said, here’s how I recommend you focus your marketing as we get ready to enter Q4.

3 ways to market your business better right now:

  1. Stop what you’re doing + conduct a self-audit of your business’s marketing efforts right now. What platforms are you using? How are you using them? Are you proactively or reactively sharing content? How do your efforts boost your bottom line + get people to your list + website? What touch points do you have with your audience? How can you maximize + capitalize on them? What’s actually helping your business grow + what’s just busy work?

  2. Stop relying on social media trends to gain traction. I want you to assess how much content is yours + how much is influenced. Jumping on trends like #FridayIntroductions on Instagram is okay once in a while but, if you’re constantly relying on trends to gain acceptance or popularity, you will be a one-hit wonder. Sorry, but it’s the truth. It’s excruciatingly obvious that you only use social media for your own personal gain. This is desperation (reactive) marketing at it’s finest. If you want to succeed, get more followers, get more customers, make more money from your platforms, you have to be as ORIGINAL + INTENTIONAL as possible. This means creating story-focused content that strategically seeds your offers (the amazing stuff you create that helps people) all. the. effing. time. Don’t fall victim to cookie cutter marketing. The brands succeeding, are the ones customizing their content + creating it for their audience, not for themselves.

  3. Stop self-sabotaging. Your post not get enough likes? Leads not coming through? That’s on you, not your audience. If you know them well enough, if you’re engaging with them enough, you’ll know exactly what content they need + want to see on their social media platforms. This is not about you. This is about THEM. If your engagement is low, it’s your fault - no one else’s. Share more content that meets the needs of your audience + become obsessed with connecting with them in their space. If creating content is something you struggle with, now is the time to seek guidance.

Friend, you are in control here. If something’s not working, shift. Pivot like you’ve never pivoted before +, not just because of this virus + what it’s doing to our economy, but because you’ve always had this chance to pivot + shift. This is your opportunity to make a really positive proactive change for the better with your business.

Organic marketing can truly open amazing doors for your business. You MUST stay strong + step into it. You MUST stop using whatever cookie cutter go with the flow marketing tactics you’ve been using + start paying attention to your strategy - the thing that will make all of those annoying day to day marketing tasks easier. When you do, all of the special offers, launches, new products, services, etc. promotions of yours become less of an act of desperation to profit + more of an act to intentionally serve others + make a living long term.

I don’t know about you but if there’s something out there that makes my life easier and my business better, you better believe I’m diving in. What about you?
