How to get press for your small business (without being a PR expert)
It’s a sweet, sweet feeling when your business gets a little love from the media.
“You made it into our gift guide!”
“You’ll appear in the December issue!”
“Your b-roll will run during the first hour.”
Don’t think it’s possible as an entrepreneur with limited resources? HA! Think again.
The press doesn’t care if you work with an agency or not. What they care about is the impact you can make on their audience - their viewers, their readers, their followers. That doesn’t mean it’s easy to catch their attention but, it is possible, my friend.
Here’s how…
As you know by now, I only teach organic marketing strategies - techniques you don’t pay for in order to grow your visibility. That mostly stems from my background in the public relations industry. I stuck with this as a coach because there are SO MANY THINGS entrepreneurs can do to maximize their growth without spending a dime.
There’s social media marketing, storyselling (one of my favorite trainings inside Brand in Bloom), networking, email marketing, blogging, website optimization, SEO…Lord have mercy the list goes on.
But, today, I want to talk to you about public relations.
If you’ve ever dreamed of getting your business featured by the media, listen up.
You can do that all on your own as long as you have a computer and an internet connection. You don’t need to be a PR expert to get press, you need to be an expert on your business and what you have to offer then be willing to tell people about it.
And, I’m not just talking small fry local press. I’m talking big guns magee over here.
How does The New York Times sound? TODAY? Ellen? Huff Po?
As someone who’s represented an array of small and large businesses across the globe, I can tell you one thing: you don’t need to hire an agency or have a ginormous budget as an entrepreneur to get press attention for your awesome product or service.
